May 1st sees Bourne Wheelers CC organise a National B road race in memory of former club member, Tim James, who sadly passed away in May 2021 after a battle with an incredibly rare form of cancer. Tim, affectionately known as Timmy to many of his club mates and friends, tasted success in some of the biggest Under 23 races in the world while racing for the Italian based Zappi team, before moving back to the UK where his illness cruelly took away his dreams of making it to the professional ranks.

Tim had huge talent for bike racing and achieved so much in his short life, but more importantly he was kind, eternally positive and infectiously happy, with a smile that spread joy to everyone he met. The Timmy James Memorial Road Race will be held on the Witham on the Hill circuit near Bourne, finishing atop Barbers Hill, a short climb that was the perfect finish for Tim’s punchy kick at the end of a race. An extensive prize fund will be on offer, a minimum of £1000 sponsored by JJ Mac. The race will be raising money for Young Lives vs Cancer, who supported Tim and his family in his final months.

The race is a National B event and will comprise of seven and a half laps of the grippy Witham on the Hill circuit. Although the mens race will be run under the EMRRL banner, the event is open to everyone with priority to Elite and 1st cat riders. There will be a maximum of five riders from any team unless a full field isn’t reached in which case the organiser will accept extra riders from teams. There will also be a full compliment of NEG outriders to ensure safe passage of both race.

Riders should be aware that some of the course is held on “Lincolnshire lanes!” and although quiet, the road surface in places is poor. It is the riders responsibility to look after each other and to know where the poor road surface is. On the day Comms will give a briefing of where the worst parts are!!

Junior & Under 23 Women National Series Round 3: Starting at 9.30am and over 4.5 laps of the same course for the men, organiser Mark Botteley wants to draw the country’s top talent to Lincolnshire for what will be the biggest races in the UK on the day, hoping that it will form a fitting tribute to a much loved and missed young man.
