2023 Perfs Pedal Road Race

The 58th Edition of the British early season classic, the Perfs Pedal National B Road Race near Portsmouth has been won by Jack Rootkin-Gray in a 1-2-3 for Saint Piran with Harry Birchill second and Zeb Kyffin third. The race began with lots of little moves on the early laps but it wasn’t until the third lap that a breakaway got clear (Connor McGoldrick, Huw Buck Jones, Jack Crook, Benjam Bright, Matthew Coles).

It was chased by Jack Rootkin-Gray and Harry Birchill and behind them two more riders and then the peloton. A lap later and at the front by a few seconds from the peloton was Jack and Harry as well as last years winner Damien Clayton, Cycling Sheffield’s George Wood on his new Moda bike and a few other riders. But the gap was literally seconds.

Into the final lap (5), and Jack Rootkin-Gray lead the breakaway through, from Rowan Baker, then Harry Birchill, Zeb Kyffin and Jack Crook. As Zeb Kyffin explained later, the three Saint Piran riders had to put the hurt on to get clear of the other two which they did and it was a 1-2-3 result for Saint Piran and a show of strength following on from there performances in the latter half of 2022.
