The West Midlands Road Race League goes into its final two races with three possible winners at the head of the overall standings
News: West Midlands Road Race League
The West Midlands Road Race League, supported this season by Fusion Media, goes into its final two races with three possible winners at the head of the overall standings. The current leader Luke Cairney of Gannet CC has a healthy 74 points lead over Emile Glorieux of Royal Leamington Spa CC, whose club organise this weekend’s penultimate round, the Friz Hill/Giant Leamington Spa RR. Cairney, who has scored points in six of the seven rounds held so far, is understood not to be racing this Sunday, which may enable Glorieux to close the gap or overtake him.
Third place rider Charlie Genner of Halesowen A & CC Academy-Mapei, is not eligible to ride this weekend’s race as he is a second category, but will have his chance on September 2 when his club host the final round of the series, the Nick Clayton Memorial race on the Astley circuit. Genner is currently 80 points behind Cairney, meaning he has a mathematical chance of winning the series depending on how results go this weekend. With £700 prize money on offer for the top 10 in the standings, there is plenty still to play for.

The long-standing series, won last year by Matt Humpage (unattached), is run within 2/3/4 Regional A and 3rd/4th cat Regional B races in the West Midlands region, and is decided by taking a separate classification of West Midlands riders within each race. This year, 92 riders have scored points in the seven rounds held to date.
