Crit Result: SACA Salt Ayre Tuesday Series 19

With the nights drawing, the organisers were reduced to one race with a new format of a handicap tempo race. The event was organised by Giant Kendal. The 25 lap race was split into 2 groups with 13 3rd and 4th cats set of first followed 90 seconds later by a group of 8 2nd and 1st cats. From lap 5 onward one point was awarded to first over the line, right through to the last lap.

It took just 12 laps for the scratch group to catch the front and, at that stage, no rider had won more than 2 laps. Three laps later and break of 3 formed and started to share the points, then a 4th rider bridged across. After the final lap John Bardsley (Innovation Racing) and Joe Boothroyd (Giant Kendal – Sidas UK) were tied on 4 points each but the win went to John for better placing on the last lap. Four riders were tied on 2 points but the 3rd place went to Mark Berry (Rossendale RC) for the best placing on the last lap.

The race result and BC points were taken by John Bardsley (Innovation Racing) from Joe Boothroyd (Giant Kendal – Sidas UK), Mark Berry (Rossendale RC) and Christopher Booth (Giant Kendal – Sidas UK), the 4 breakaway riders whilst Gavin Berry (Royal Navy & Royal Marines CA) took the bunch sprint for 5th.

Next week, 29th August is their season finale with a 25 lap points race.
