Twenty eight riders took to the start in bright sunshine at Redbridge Cycle Centre with the E/F/G/H group being given a ¾ lap start. From the gun, Paul James broke clear of the rest in an attempt to gain a lap on the A/B/C/Ds. Although he got close, he was never able to close the gap principally because Antony Wallis had broken clear and he remained clear to the line despite a puncture with two laps to go.

Meanwhile James was still clear at the head of the race. He was eventually caught by Wallis and managed to stay with him for five laps. As he dropped back, he was caught by Matt Steel, Chris Beales, Os Assem and Steve Noel who had broken clear of the bunch and this group stayed clear to the line with Matt Steel taking 2nd place. Toks tried to bridge across with nine laps to go but was not able to cross the gap. Dave Farrow took the bunch sprint.
