Huge field in the Youth C Girls race which bodes well for the future of Girls and Women’s cycling competition in the West Midlands and it wasn’t just the number of girls taking part but the quality too!

Evelyn Charles from promoting club Mid Shropshire Wheelers was ever active at the head of affairs of this combined boys and girls event but will maybe learn a lesson from Wolverhamptons Harriett Cosnett who set the fastest Youth C time of the day trying to overhaul Wyre Forests Bradley Betts who hung on to save the boys blushes on a roasting hot day at Shrewsbury Sports Village.

No 2/3rds racing today at the request of West Midlands British Cycling and so the closing race was for 4th Category riders only. An active high speed race at an average speed of just under 25mph kept a compact bunch until near the end when Ethan Hull from Barrow Central Wheelers made the long journey worthwhile by taking the win from a small breakaway of 3 riders. Going in hot to the final hairpin in an attempt to take 4th place was not to be for Staffords Noah Scriven as he found to his cost that there is a very fine line between grip and slip on the Shrewsbury Sports Village bottom corner.

Next race at Shrewsbury Sports Village will be the very popular Newport Shropshire CC West Midlands Youth Series event on May 11th with assistance from Mid Shropshire Wheelers with their MyLaps Chip Timing System for fast and accurate results.
