After biblical rain for 18 hours on Saturday for race day course prep’, it seemed like a typical muddy Shrewsbury Sports Village Cyclo Cross was guaranteed, but a warm breeze maybe contributed to just a softening of the dry and rock hard surface experienced through the August Friday Night Series. Course Director George had added some interesting twists to engineer an uphill finish which took August riders out of their comfort zone, tackling sections in reverse from their well practiced route.

Youth and Under 12 categories had a surprise guest in Lewis Askey to assist in prize presentations with WMCCL MC Yvonne.

Ceris Styler had no problems on this technical course to finish a comfortable winner from Eilish Gilbert with 3rd place Genny Billington rueing a missed opportunity, making a mistake lapping another rider, and seeing a 2nd place opportunity disappear.

The senior and junior race was a cracker and a shame that more people don’t stay and watch after their earlier races. A group of 3 starting finessing with 2 laps to go to be caught napping by Kirk Vickers and James Garrett. Kirk even shouting “on your left” thinking he was lapping riders, not taking the lead! A great battle ensued, James running out of gas, Kirk not able to match the skills of the lead 3 and so it was Sully Berry who took the very exciting sprint finish from Simon Wylie and Junior Oliver Larner all on the same time.
Next week’s event is at the Heart of England Centre and promoted by Run and Ride.
