Q & A: Liz Burrows (Sunsport Velo)
Former triathlete Liz Burrows of the Sunsport Velo Racing Team in 2017, says the best part of riding the team is being surrounded by some super motivated girls and team managers as well as getting awesome support from the team sponsors; Velo expresso, Brother, and Sunsport coaching.
1. How did you get into cycle racing?
Liz: I’m a former triathlete looking for a new challenge and was introduced to bike racing though my boyfriend Jake Tanner
2. What’s your favourite discipline in cycling?
Liz: Endurance
3. What is the best thing about bike racing?
Liz: It’s Hard
4. What was the highlight of 2016 for you and why?
Liz: Riding the Tour de Yorkshire and passing through my home town of Pontefract
5. What was your favourite/most fun race of 2016
Liz: Belgium races!!
6. What was the toughest race of 2016 for you?
Liz: Tour of the Reservoir
7. If there was one thing you learned most in 2016 to help you go faster/better, what was that?
Liz: Eat more! Positioning, positioning, positioning!
8. What is the best piece of equipment (clothing/bike/gadget) to do with racing you are proud of most?
Liz: My new Cervelo and my Edco wheels
9. What is your warm up routine for races – rollers or turbo? Music or no music?
Liz: Rollers and yes to music

10. Will you stay in the UK to prepare for next season during the winter or get in a training camp or two abroad to get in some serious miles?
Liz: Australia for a month training in the sunshine!
11. When will you start training for 2017 and what comes first – long steady miles or a mix of miles and efforts?
Liz: Long miles and one session a week until winter chainy starts in January.
12. What are the goals for 2017?
Liz: Getting some results for Sunsport Velo women’s race team. I’m looking forward to racing the Elite women’s road series in the UK and some tours in Europe.
13. Does winter training consist only of riding the bike or running/swimming/gym work (cross training).
Liz: riding the bike, gym and swimming as it’s hard to stay out of the pool being an ex-swimmer
14. Finally, what have you learnt over the years to best deal with the winter months on a bike!
Liz: My winter gortex boots to keep my toes toasty. Long rides with the lads and plenty of banter.
