News: Team OnForm For Women’s Tour Series
Gordon Wiseman talks to Simon Howes and Amy Hill about Team OnForm racing the 2017 Women’s Tour Series
Simon has worked hard over the winter to bring the outfit together and that includes bringing the historical Bianchi brand to the Tour Series. Team OnForm will be one of the thirteen women’s teams who’ll be competing in the Matrix Fitness Grand Prix Series that will be racing at 8 of the thirteen locations that make up this year’s Tour Series calendar.
“The Matrix Series is a huge attraction to a team like ourselves. It’s a massive goal for the team, all the riders want to be as successful as they can be at such a huge series of races. As a team, we’ll get great coverage and with all the races being televised it brings great TV exposure to the sponsors. Everything about the series is what both the sponsors and riders want and require.
“The team will be lucky enough to be racing on the award-winning Bianchi XR4 and we’ve worked closely with Twenty3c in bringing Bianchi on board and our main sponsor in creating Team OnForm. It’s a great opportunity for our riders’ – a women’s team, mixed boys and girls junior team and a development men’s team – ‘to be competing on such an historic brand. Writtle University College are our main sponsor and their main aim – and ours as a team – is to be able to help riders develop.
“Wembley looks like it’ll be a great venue and you’d expect there to be great crowds here as well which will create a brilliant atmosphere. And as it’s a race that’s closer to where a few of our riders live it also means less travelling for some of our them and with a schedule as busy as we’ll have this year that’s great as well. With the racing spreading from old ‘classics’ such as Redditch to last year’s new race at Stevenage every round will bring something important to us all.
Amy Hill (left, ) Team OnForm) – although still only 21, Amy (from Newport) brings a wealth of international experience to the new squad. She was part of the 2013 Junior Team Pursuit World Championship winning quartet and raced the inaugural Women’s Tour of Britain in 2014. For the last two years she’s been racing for the Danish outfit Team Rytger.
“I’m really excited at the prospect of racing for Team OnForm and as part of the Matrix Grand Prix Series in 2017. I don’t think I really knew where I was going in the last two years but the plans for this year are really positive and I very much like the group of girls I’ll be racing with.
“There’s been a lot of travelling with the Danish team being a European based team but I approached Simon because I wanted to come back to my roots and get more experience on the road over here. And in the last two years things have changed here for women’s cycling so, so much. The whole scene over here has just exploded in that short time but in such a good way.
“I’m not sure which of this year’s races will bring out the best in me. In 2013 I got third in the Crit. champs before I went to the Junior Worlds but nowadays I don’t mind flat or hilly circuits’ – which is just as well living in Wales! – ‘so I know there will be opportunities for me in a number of the Matrix races this year. I’m really looking forward to it!”
