News: N&DCA Awards Night
The Northumberland & Durham Cycling Association awards night was held at The Town Wall in Newcastle on Sunday 28th January. There was a good turnout, with all the members having the opportunity to reminisce about last season and look forward to the start of the 2018 campaign in 2 months’ time.
Gemma Frost – Womens 10 mile champ & HC Winner
The 2017 season saw more people competing than ever before, with an average field of over 70 riders at each event. Many of the categories were hotly contested, with some close results and the ‘countback’ system having to be used as a decider.
Adam Wild of Tyneside Vagabonds claimed the N&DCA Individual Championship Trophy as winner of the Best All Rounder competition and also rode to a solid win in the 100 mile championship event. Carl Donaldson again won the 25 and 50 mile events with Danny Grieves winning the 10 mile, both of GS Metro.
In the womens’ competition, Venda Pollock of Breeze Bikes RT had a strong season, winning the Best All Rounder competition and the 25 and 100 mile championship events. Bev Martin of GS Metro won the 10 mile event while Gemma Frost of Muckle CC won the 50 mile event and went on to win the Ladies Hill Climb league.

In the Veterans category, Colin Atkinson had a strong season, winning both the Veterans Best All Rounder and Veteran Hill Climb League. Overall winner of the Hill Climb League was Zeb Kyffin and Nick Badcock won the Road Bike category. The Juniors once again had a good showing this season with Adam Jarps of Manilla Cycling taking the Junior BAR title and Daniel Dixon of Gosforth winning the Junior Hill Climb League.

Team Prizes were awarded to Blaydon CC in the overall BAR and Muckle CC for both the Veterans BAR and the Hill Climb League.
Allen Armstrong, President of N&DCA, presented the trophies. The N&DCA 2018 BAR starts on Saturday 17th March with the 21 mile time trial (M21) organised by Barnesbury CC.
