Youth Result: Isle of Man Youth League

After round 1 was cancelled due to flooding, round 2 of the RL360 Isle of Man Youth League was held on Tuesday (April 16) in bitterly cold conditions with a good turnout of 221 riders.

The league was started in 1992 by John Purvis and Alex Forrest of the Manx Viking Wheelers with Dot Tilbury and several other members of the club assisting.

The league has always been held in Douglas at the National Sports Centre (NSC). Dot took over the full running of the league following the sudden death of Alex in 1997 and after John (who sadly died this month) stood down to concentrate on a new business venture.

In 1994 Scottish Provident (now trading under the title of RL360) started their sponsorship of the league, which continues to this day. To date the company has invested over £200,000 in the development of youth cycling on the Isle of Man. The scheduled opening round of the 2024 league on April 2nd was cancelled due to a flooded track.

Thankfully round 2 went ahead last Tuesday night in dry but bitterly cold conditions. Despite this, there was a good turnout of 221 riders. Before the action started, a representative from the league’s sponsor, RL360, handed over the company’s sponsorship cheque for this year. Amazingly, 2024 is the 30th anniversary of RL360’s involvement with league.
