NEWS: Youth Tour of Scotland, Britain’s Premier Youth Bike Race, to Return to Perth in 2025
(Scottish Cycling Press Release) The Youth Tour of Scotland will return to Perth and Kinross in 2025, with three stages of exciting racing on the weekend of the 12th and 13th April.
Over 150 riders from across the UK, Ireland and abroad are expected to descend on Perthshire for the 11th edition of the UK’s premier youth bike race.
After the opening day’s racing in Forteviot, the race will return to Perth City Centre for the first time since 2015; with a stunning final criterium set to decide the 2025 champions.
Further racing and community activities will also take place in Perth with an Elite Open and Female race, and an opportunity for the public to ride the closed-road circuit. The Forteviot circuit in rural Perthshire, will play host to a time trial, and a road race on the Saturday.
Alumni of the race include Olympic and Paralympic Champions Tom Pidcock, Emma Finucane and Scotland’s Jenny Holl. Paisley’s four-time Olympic medallist Jack Carlin and Kelso’s Oscar Onley, who rode the Tour de France this summer, have too enjoyed the development opportunity the Youth Tour offers. This trend sets to continue with the 2022 winners Cat Ferguson and Seb Grindley having already gone on to win World Championship medals at junior level.
The race is open to riders who race in the Youth A (Under 16) and Youth B (Under 14) age categories, with entries set to open in mid-January. The race is one of a kind in the UK, with youth riders getting the chance to race on closed roads with full race convoys, akin to that of a professional road race.
Event Lead and Scottish Cycling Events Manager, Tarn Fynn, said: “We are very excited by the new format for the 2025 Youth Tour of Scotland as we are expanding the reach of the event, engaging with more riders in our community and providing a rare opportunity for youth and senior competitors to race in front of spectators in a city centre in Scotland, as well as showcasing the fast-paced racing to a public audience.
“There are a number of great opportunities the change presents, notably boosting the long-term sustainability of the event and growing participation in cycling, and we are grateful for the support of Perth and Kinross Council in making this happen.”
