Result: King and Queen of the Bowl Crit Series 10
A welcome return to racing at the Milton Keynes National Bowl after a 3-week hiatus due to concerts saw good numbers signing on for all races.

WOMEN’S RACE

The women’s race, whilst better attended than some weeks, could still use a few more ladies entering the race, but it had its fair share of tough racing this night. The majority was kept smooth but the pace was high throughout, although it stayed together until the final few laps. Coming into the sprint finish it was Freya Taylor of Team Empella who took the honours, with Lucy Havard (Cambridge University CC) and Jennifer Andrews (Cycle Club Ashwell CCA) rounding out the podium.

1. Taylor, Freya Team Empella
2. Havard, Lucy Cambridge University CC
3. Andrews, Jennifer Cycle Club Ashwell (CCA)
4. Boyles, Isabella Banbury Star CC
5. Kisley, Poppy Wolfox CAMS Le Col RT
6. Simpson, Elaine Team FTP Fusion
7. Fawcett, Rebecca

4TH CATEGORY

In the Open 4th Category race, it was great to see 17 riders take to this event. Tom Greeves (Rugby Racing Cycling Club) looked like he had nailed it from halfway, getting a gap solo of 20 seconds, but was reeled back in just before 5 laps to go. He still had enough in the tank to claim fourth, narrowly missing out on the podium. Matthew Craft (Aylesbury CC) timed his sprint to perfection, something that needs quite a lot of judgement depending on which way round the circuit you’re going! Samuel Barnwell (Rugby Racing Cycling Club) and Umair Nurgat (Gapped Race Team) placed well in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Onto the 7 o’clock 3/4 category and E/1/2/3 category races which had 22 and 16 starters respectively. Tonight, the riders went out onto the East Car Park Circuit, clockwise (yes as mentioned previously it does matter), as shortly after the start/finish they have to do a sharp left turn, and when they come into the finish it’s a “steeper” “hill” than anti-clockwise.

The Ashby Ivanhoe Road Cyclists (AIRC) made sure that nothing would get away without one of their riders present. Unfortunately for them they just missed out on the top spot of the podium by a matter of centimetres when Thomas Wade (Cambridge University CC) pipped Bruce Winfield (AIRC) to the win. Ash Mahoney (Ziggurat Racing) took a well-deserved third place.

ELITE/1/2/3

In the Elite/1/2/3 event a slight dig from Jake Hales (Ride Revolution Coaching) at barely 20 minutes into racing saw him well clear and go on to lap the field, bar one rider. Not bad considering he had only been up at Otley the night before and had Ilkley to ride the following day! Matthew Rizzo-Naudi (Schils – Doltcini Racing Team) also managed to get clear of the bunch and stayed away for second place. The podium was completed by Freddy Pett (Wold Top Pactimo).
