EVENTS: GREAT BRITAIN’S FUTURE TALENTS TO BE SHOWCASED AT UEC TRACK JUNIORS/UNDER-23 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS (15-20 July) (BC Press Release)

The Great Britain team can today announce the 33-strong team of up-and-coming riders that have been selected to represent Great Britain at the 2025 UEC Track Juniors/U23 European Championships in Anadia, Portugal from 15-20 July.

Having topped the event’s medal table in 2024, Great Britain Cycling Team’s future stars will be looking to make their mark on the international stage, with many aiming to defend titles while 15 make their European Championships debut.

The men’s endurance squad will be led by Josh Charlton who has already starred on the senior stage in recent times. Two silvers at last year’s world championships in Denmark, in both the individual pursuit and team pursuit, were followed up with European gold in the individual pursuit earlier this year.

He will be joined by Noah Hobbs, who he won team pursuit silver with at the senior Europeans in February. Having picked up two medals in the junior events last year, Will Salter will step up for his first year at under-23 level, alongside Elliot Rowe. Ben Wiggins will look to add more track silverware to his collection, as he rounds out the under-23 men’s squad.

In the junior ranks, having picked up much silverware in his first year as a junior including a team pursuit bronze at last year’s championships, the junior individual pursuit world title plus silver and bronze world championships medals, Henry Hobbs will head up the junior men’s endurance squad.

He will be joined by Max Hinds, who hopes to transfer his early success on the road this season over to the track, as well as Rory Gravelle, Albie Jones and Daniel Thompson who all make their debuts at this event.

WOMEN U23

In the women’s under-23 squad, having won multiple medals at last year’s event before scooping herself an impressive omnium silver medal at this year’s Track Elite European Championships, Maddie Leech will be back, looking to add more accolades to her collection.

Alongside returning teammates Grace Lister and Izzy Sharp, they will be looking to retain their team pursuit title, while also hitting some individual successes. They will be joined by first year under-23 talent Carys Lloyd, and debutant Lucy Glover.

Two-time world champion and multi–European medallist Erin Boothman had a fantastic start to the year on the track, winning every event she entered at the Apeldoorn Junior International. Looking to further make her mark on the international stage, she will lead the new but already successful junior women’s endurance squad.

Abigail Miller, who won the Madison alongside Boothman and the points race in her own right, and Pheobe Taylor who also won her scratch and Madison races at the Apeldoorn events, will make their European championships debuts. Also making their debuts and moving to the track after strong road seasons so far are Arabella Blackburn and Evie Smith.

In the sprint events, Rhian Edmunds will lead the women’s team after successfully stepping up at this year’s elite championships, bringing home three silver medals in her elite debut. She will be aiming to defend her team sprint title from last year, alongside teammate Iona Moir who will also be looking to repeat or better her keirin silver medal. Rounding out their team sprint squad will be Georgette Rand who will be making her under-23 debut having won junior European titles in the sprint, keirin and 500m TT events last year.

Junior women’s sprint debutants Bronwen Howard-Rees and Eve James will take to the start line at their first major championships, with high hopes of success.

The under-23 men’s sprint team will be headed up by Ed Lowe who, having been fast-tracked to the silver medal-winning team sprint squad at last summer’s Olympic Games at just 20 years old, will make his European Championships debut. He will be joined by last year’s under-23 team sprint silver medallist Marcus Hiley and Oliver Pettifer who will be competing in the under-23 category for the first time.

Archie Gill brings the most experience to the junior men’s sprint squad, competing at what will be his second championships. He leads debutants Ioan Hepburn, Charlie Holt and Kristian Larigo as they look to showcase their developing skills on the international stage.

Performance Director for the Great Britain Cycling Team, Stephen Park CBE said; “In terms of squad size, this is our biggest event of the year and it’s fantastic to be able to support all these developing young riders to compete, especially for those who this is their first major championships; many of them very new to the programme.

“The GBCT performance pathway has supported some of the biggest names in cycling at the start of their careers, and we are committed to continuing to do so for many years to come. This event is a real milestone in performance development and can often highlight those ‘riders to watch’ for the LA cycle and beyond. I, for one, am very excited to see what this developing crop of riders can do on this stage.”

The GBCT track programme has seen incredible success over the past six Olympic cycles, boasting Britain’s most decorated male and female Olympians in Sir Jason and Dame Laura Kenny.

Much of this success is thanks to UK Sport World Class Programme, funded by The National Lottery which allows the Great Britain Cycling Team programme to continue to grow, identifying and developing the future stars of tomorrow into LA 2028 and beyond.
