DERBY SELECTED AS HOST CITY FOR 2026 UCI INDOOR CYCLING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
26 September 2025, London, UK: Derby has been awarded as host of the 2026 UCI Indoor Cycling World Championships, to be held from 16-18 October 2026 at Derby Arena. The decision was made at the 194th UCI Congress, which took place this week in Kigali, Rwanda during the 2025 UCI Road World Championships.
This annual event brings together the world’s top athletes in the two technical and exciting formats of artistic cycling and cycle-ball, both of which have a dedicated, season long UCI World Cup.
In artistic cycling, riders (individuals or teams of two or four riders) present a five-minute programme set to music, demonstrating balance, strength and creative choreography. Cycle-ball is a fast-paced two-a-side team sport, often compared to football on bikes. Both specialities crown UCI World Champions who earn the coveted rainbow jersey; cycling’s most iconic prize, worn only by the best in the world.
Spectators can look forward to a vibrant atmosphere and world-class displays of skill and athleticism over three action-packed days.
Councillor Ndukwe Onuoha, Derby City Council Cabinet Member for Streetpride, Parks and Leisure said: “We are delighted that Derby has been selected by the UCI to host this prestigious event. Hosting the 2026 UCI Indoor Cycling World Championships will bring international attention to our city, inspire local participation in cycling and sport more broadly, and deliver benefits for local businesses and tourism. Derbyshire has a proud sporting heritage and passionate supporters, and we look forward to showcasing that spirit as we welcome the world in October next year.”
UCI President David Lappartient said: “It is always a pleasure to bring the UCI Indoor Cycling World Championships to cities that combine enthusiasm for cycling with the facilities and expertise to showcase our sport. Derby has demonstrated all these qualities, and we believe it will offer an outstanding platform for athletes in artistic cycling and cycle-ball to shine on the global stage.”
Further event details including ticketing and community engagement opportunities will be unveiled in spring 2026.
