CMI Pro Cycling Press release Jan 9th
At the start of a new cycling season, a new series of opportunities present themselves to aspiring cyclists that are looking at University and degree study as an option. CMI have raced at UCI National Tour level over the past few seasons, competing regularly across Europe and Africa, and for 2013 have multiple UCI race winners on the squad. The pedigree is there and the current crop of young UK riders on the team will have access to high levels of knowledge from which to draw from as well as a great International and domestic race programme.
The partnership with the University will further enhance the development angle and offer the chance for undergraduates to become part the race structure, should various criteria be met. This, along with the fantastic facilities and degree courses available at the University, provides a package that is second to none.
Nick Beasant, Assistant director of sport (performance and competitions) at the University- “This partnership is an excellent opportunity for young cyclists to make the most of what we can offer, and build a real future for themselves in the sport. We now have a real connection to the world of International cycle racing and the right people in place to make Exeter the primary destination for aspiring undergraduates. The offer couldn’t be more compelling.â€
CMI team manager in the UK David Walters adds “Our whole focus in Britain has been to develop the best young riders possible and to give them the best opportunity to express themselves and to develop into excellent riders. We’ve had top 20’s in UCI races and National Road Race Championships, so we’ve proved it can be done with the right guidance. This partnership allows us to broaden our talent pool and create a formidable group of riders, easily dovetailing the Exeter undergraduates with the CMI squad. There is no reason why these two strands cannot form the backbone of our young professional squad for years to comeâ€.
So, if any young, talented and hungry cyclists are considering applying to University over the coming weeks, The University of Exeter and CMI would like to hear from you, and discuss the partnership further.
