Results & report from the Brooks Cycles Track League at Newcastle under Lyme, Staffs on Thursday 4th July

After two weeks of rain it was a fine dry sunny evening at Brooks Cycles Track League at Newcastle under Lyme, Staffs on Thursday 4th July 2013. The night’s racing was added an extra dimension with three members of the British Under 16 Sprint Talent Team competing which made for some interesting and fast racing.

In the sprint events, the sprint final saw National Junior Sprint Champion, Sean Mayer (Swinnerton Cycles), take the front with 250m to go to take the win from new National Masters Sprint Champion, Phil Holton (Brooks Cycles), and Jack Carlin (Team Thomsons) third. The other sprint events saw Jack Carlin impressively win the 500m Handicap and then along with fellow talent team members Jack Payne (Sport City Velo) and Joe Truman win the team sprint.

The B Class events saw Joe Swinnerton move up the league in winning the Course de Primes and the Devil. The other B winners were Paige Millward (Squadra Donne) in the 10 Lap Scratch and Dave Smith in the 10 mile Scratch. The Youth events saw a good turnout of riders competing over the 4 race programme with James Brayford winning the 200m time trial followed by Laim Zwetschnikow winning the Devil, 6 Lap Scratch and also leading his Team Sprint team to victory.

The A Class endurance events were short of riders. However, Alex Braybrook took full advantage, winning the Devil and the Course de Primes.

The Freewheelers raced really hard throughout the night with some great skills displayed by the leagues youngest riders. After a very competitive 15 race program the points were totted up and the top points scorers were as follows;
