News – Velo29 Daffodils – A Sportive with a Difference
PRESS RELEASE
Velo29 bring us a stack of races and Sportives across the year, including the Stockton Festival in July and the new Ripon Tour de France Sportive on the day 1 route of le Tour, the only event with special permission to use the Tour route in a 2 week window either side of the race.
There are a lot of Sportives on the market, Velo29 are an innovate organization who enjoy pushing the boundaries and bringing a new edge to the sport. In this year’s Sportive Series they have added a KOM and General Classification Jersey with a hope to give some credit and kudos to Sportive Riders who don’t want to enter a British Cycling race but do put the miles in and are competitive riders.
The KOM is based on Strava data though a Velo29 own app is just a few weeks away! There are KOM segments on all the routes, marked by some nice looking polka dot signs. Riders will send the Strava data at the end of the ride and the times will be displayed on a big screen at the finish. The shortest cumulative time will be award a polka dot jersey to wear in the next Sportive.
The G.C. times work on traditional timing chip data though in the future that might move to the Velo29 app as well. The rider with the shortest time is awarded the traditional Maillot jaune. The jerseys are really nice quality from Altura and exclusive to the series, the riders awarded them will really have something to cherish.
There’s a Jersey for the best young rider as well, which is of course white.
Anyone riding the 3 events qualifies for the Jerseys, they are the Daffodils 26th April, the Endeavour 12th July and the White Horse 27th September. The Tour de France event is not part of the series this year but will be in future years.
