The 2016 season of the Brooks Cycles Track League at The Lyme Valley Velodrome, Newcastle under Lyme, got off to a flying start with 70 riders

Report: Brooks Cycles Track League 

The 2016 season of the Brooks Cycles Track League at The Lyme Valley Velodrome, Newcastle under Lyme, got off to a flying start with 70 riders taking part. The weather was kind with all the racing taking place under warm blue skies.

The night started with the usual Freewheelers racing with the three groups keenly contested by the youngest riders at the league. After a program of 12 races the top points scorers in each group were as follows;

Group 1 Evie Davis, William Meddow,Thomas Weaver , Lyme RC 5 Points
Group 2 Daniel Jones Lyme RC 10 Points
Group 3 Max McKenzie and Harley Johns Lyme RC 10 Points

The main league started with the first round of the 500m Handicap League. The mass charge for the line saw Caleb Hill ( Lyme RC ) take a fine win from Chris Pyatt ( Brooks Cycles ). In the other Sprinters League events there was a win for Eamonn Byrne ( Sundried) Chris Pyatt and Barney Swinnerton ( Swinnerton Cycles) in the Team Sprint and Joel Partington ( Swinnerton Cycles ) won the individual Sprint Final from Sean Mayer ( Swinnerton Cycles ) and Josh Spendelow ( Brooks Cycles ).

In the A Class Endurance events Ethan Davies ( Wolverhampton Wheelers ) won the opening 10 lap scratch before Joe Swinnerton ( Swinnerton Cycles ) won the points race and the Devil. The final 30 lap scratch saw joel partington take the win from Joe Swinnerton after they had broken away from the field early in the race to take a great win.

The B Class races saw a large field compete with the points going to a large number of riders. The 8 lap scratch was taken by Alex Coates ( Lyme RC) who then was moved up to the A class events. Aidan Morley ( Lyme RC) then won the course de primes and he too was moved to the A Class races. James Duncalf ( Lyme RC ) won the final two B events in the devil and the 30 lap scratch.

Each week we are running a C Class 5 lap Scratch race and this week the victory went to Keri Parton ( RAF CC) . 

The youth events were well supported with Farley Barber ( Lyme RC ) taking the opening block handicap before Aleshia Mellor ( Lyme RC) won the devil and the course de primes. The Team sprint winning team was Farley Barber, Matt Cuthbertson ,Hannah Davis ,Josh Jackson and Harry Ledingham-Horn – All Lyme RC
