Stephen Wright: Motorpoint enjoys flying start to Cinturón Ciclista on Majorca with two riders in the top 10
The Motorpoint Pro-Cycling Team is leading the team classification after a flying start to the 46th Cinturón Ciclista Internacional a Mallorca. Ian Bibby put in a fantastic turn during the first stage of the tour, a 7km time trial between S’Arenal and, Llucmajor, coming in seven seconds down on stage winner Jose Belda Mira (Guerola – Valencia Terra I Mar). He was closely followed by team mate Marcin Bialoblocki who took 5th in the overall standings.
Jonny McEvoy came in 23rd, Malcolm Elliott 58th, Tobyn Horton 79th and James Sampson 107th. The team currently has an eight second lead over Guerola – Valencia Terra I Mar and 15 seconds on nearest UK-based rival Endura Racing. Tomorrow the riders travel some 148.5kms between Port d’Alcúdia and Port de Pollença. Says Chris Truett, Director Sportif of the Motorpoint Pro-Cycling Team: “Stage One has gone really well for everybody. Marcin rode extremely strongly and was leading for two hours but lost out to the last few riders, one of which was Ian Bibby. We thought we had the stage in the bag but he got pipped at the post. Overall, we are well placed for the rest of the Tour.â€
