Spot Chat: Endura Racing’s Rob Partridge

Winner of the Oldham round of the Halfords Tour Series, Rob Partridge (Endura Racing)  talks winter training

“I have just spent about four weeks off” says the Welshman, “but still rode a bit; mountain biking and the odd social ride combined with a bit of jogging. I get grumpy if I don’t do any exercise!”

“I’ve been working in three week blocks, then a week recovery. I’ve not pushed it over the 20 hour a week barrier just yet. I took my last recovery week off over Christmas so could spend as much time with the family as possible. I’ve also been doing a bit of cross just for a bit of fun.”

Rob and his bike in warmer times …

That ‘bit of ‘cross’ included the National Trophy at Bradford not far from where he lives in Yorkshire these days but saw him having to run more than riding so bad was the mud on that day. Rob says a typical week day ride for him is four to five hours over mixed terrain and with no real structure within the ride at the moment. “Some days I’ve had an early gym session as well. I usually get out with Wilko (Ian Wilkinson) or Pete Williams who has recently moved up here.”

There was no riding on Christmas day says Rob adding “we spend so much time away over the year that I like to enjoy the big occasions back home.” Looking ahead to New Years day though and he says he’ll definitely be out.

The team launch is on January 14 at the London Bike Show (1.30pm, cycling stage)  and then the Endura Racing team training camp follows where he expects there’ll be lots of big riders mixed in with some drills on the road. His race programme however is a little up in the air due to the uncertainty of the Tour of the Med but he does expect to be racing the semi classic, Haut Var in France as well as the races in Majorca.
