The victory for the New Zealand rider Mike Northey came on stage 1 of the five day race and follows his strong showing behind Endura Racing at the Tour of DoonHame. A group of eleven riders had escaped and from that break, Northey attacked alone and carved out a lead of nine seconds before Andrey Solomennikov of Katusha won the sprint ahead of Matt Cronshaw.

The team now have the leader’s jersey to defend and with Cronshaw making that break which finished three minutes ahead of the peloton, they have two options to play over the next four stages.
