Tony Lyons (Event Organiser) writes… This annual cycling event went ahead successfully again, although, as last year, roadworks on the course all day ( painting road markings ) caused some concern for a while. However, the contractors had finished their work with about 30 minutes to go before the event was due to start, and all was well.

The weather was almost perfect, mild and sunny, with little wind to trouble the competitors. Consequently, some very fast times were produced, none more so than the winner, Simon Bridge of Manchester Wheelers who finished in 48 minutes and 48 seconds, which is the closest any rider has got to Chris Boardmans’ course record of 45minutes in recent years. Second was Callum Nicholson of Team Wallis/CHH RT with 50m.06s, just edging last years winner, Sam Clark into third place with his 50m.38s.

Fastest lady rider was Joanna Blakeley of Seamons CC with 1hr.00m.49s and the team award went to Saddleworth Clarion. The youngest competitor was 15 years old Mitchell Cross, of Base2Race Cycles who finished with a creditable 1hr.04m.34s. Riders from the promoting Oldham Century Road Club were, Rob Wilkinson (56m.20s), Ian Kenworthy (58m.51s) and Mark Flynn (1hr.00m.02s)
