Report: Isle of Man’s Youth League
by Dot Tilbury

Conditions were near perfect at the NSC last Tuesday night for round seven of Team RL360 Isle of Man’s youth league. A total of 314 riders took part in the eleven race programme which was filmed by the BBC for inclusion in a North West Tonight feature on the Island.

In the novices class Jack Monaghan led Jasper Whalley over the line to notch up his third success of the series. Austin Baglow edged out Eli Dawson and Jackson Roberts for third, with Lucas Wootton pipping Evie Lund for sixth. Charlie Christian led Harry Tummon home for eighth and James Cope outgunned Lewis De Backer and Daisy Teare for the final place on the top ten leader board.

Finbar McSevney rode away from the field to maintain his 100% record in the born 2011 & later age group. Carter Kneale was a solid second and Bobby Kerruish ousted Macaulay Teare in the seven-strong group gallop for third. Top girl Abigail Cowell was fifth followed by Charlie Dormer, Joshua Moffitt, Joel Prentice and Erin Morgan. Bernat Munoz-Fite spearheaded a second chasing group in to complete the top ten.

Laxey’s Stanley Kinnish was too quick for Brad Le Geyt in the final rush for the top honours in the born 2010 event. Kylan Murphy kept the fast finishing Lula Kinnish at bay to grab third and Conor Madsen-Mygdal held off Liam Blake and Dylan Bullock in the tussle for fifth. Harrison Skillan beat Ffinlo Thomas and Daniel Minay in the dash for eighth, while Archie Mulholland and Hugh Osborn stayed clear of the main chasing bunch to secure 11th and 12th respectively. Daniel Quine came out on top in the bunch dash for 13th.

In the born 2009 category Eddie Dillon escaped from a leading group of six riders to take the win. Tom Pickavance was a safe second and Cameron Hounsell had the edge on Jake Jones, Jonah Kenny and Zach Jones in the race for the final podium position. May-Saa Smith fended off a strong challenge from Abi Clayton to take the girls’ prize in seventh place and Max Davies overtook Henry Dormer in the closing stages to grab ninth. Matthew Hooper got the verdict over Florrie Thomes in the group gallop for 11th place.

Alec Sorby forged ahead of breakaway partners T.J.Teare and Freddie Griffin to bag maximum points for the fourth time in the born 2008 race. Deaglan Blake was a lonely fourth and Fearne Bregazzi snatched fifth in front of fellow chasers Charlie Williams, George Kinnish, Bob Radcliffe, Edward Field and Tiana Kelly. Ryan Nelson and Leon Murphy fronted a second wave of riders home to round off the top twelve.

Cian Howard rode clear of his four breakaway partners for an impressive solo victory in the born 2007 class. Orry Lund bagged second, with Charlie Scarffe, Jordan Carter and leading girl Florence Griffin just behind in third to fifth positions. James Kinrade overcame William Kennish, Jemma Quayle and Jess Pickavance in the fight for sixth.

Owen Collins outran Ivan Sorby, Aaron Corfield and Nicola Quaye to score maximum points in the born 2006 class. Tom Caine headed Samuel Devereau, Nathan Kinrade, Sophie Smith, Tom Darnill and Rebecca Cooil in the dash for fifth.

In the born 2005 and earlier grouping Jonty Bregazzi and Dylan Sewell clipped off the front of a group of six frontrunners to nab first and second respectively. Frank Kinnish got the better of Tyler Annis, Nathan Slack and James Devereau in the dart for third, with Emily Kinley taking the girls’ award in seventh slot.

A leading group of eight riders circulated together in the under-10 racing bikes. At the finish series leader Cian Jackson had the extra turn of speed to take the win ahead of Cian Howard and Owen Collins. Ivan Sorby, Orry Lund and Drystan Sewell wrapped up the top six, while Alec Sorby pipped Myles Le Geyt for the under-8 honours in seventh place. Sophie Smith was the best girl in 12th position.

Zac Walker and Ralf Holden went from the gun in the under-12 racing bikes and quickly built up a sizable gap. With three laps to go Walker attacked his travelling companion and powered away to the finish for another fine win. Holden held off the chasing pack for a well-deserved second place and Niall Colquitt was strongest in the bunch gallop for third. Cameron Dudley was fourth and Kieral Prentice the first girl in fifth place.
Four riders broke free on the sixth lap of the under-16’ event and were never seen again. Thomas Bostock, Adam Kelly, Will Draper and Max Walker tore up the track at high speed and never looked like being caught. Unfortunately, Walker punctured and after a quick wheel change re-joined the race in the chasing bunch. At the finish Bostock took the sprint from Kelly and Draper, with Tosh Teare ousting Walker and Ben Christian in the charge for fourth. Will Corkill was the top under 14 rider in tenth spot and Amelia Sharpe the first girl in 11th position.

* Please note that there is no racing during TT Fortnight as the NSC is being transformed into a tented village. The next round of the league will be on Tuesday, 14th June. … continued after advert2016_ShuttVeloRapideAdvert
