Thomas Mein was riding like ten men at home in Newcastle, dragging series leader Matt Bostock round the streets of his home city before Bostock made it three from three in the series – Jacob Scott solo’d his way to third

Result: Newcastle Circuit Race
Matt Bostock (Canyon DHB p/b Bloor Homes) won the inaugural Newcastle Crit – round three of the Elite Circuit Series – from local rider Thomas Mein (Tarteletto – Isorex) in second.
An initial group of four including Bostock, Ryan Christensen (Canyon DHB p/b Bloor Homes), Jacob Scott (SwiftCarbon Pro Cycling) and Mein put time into the main bunch in the opening laps after an attack by Scott, who would go on to finish third. That gap would be extended to over a minute by Mein by the end of the one-hour race, after taking the attack up from the front, dropping Scott and Christensen, with only Bostock able to go with him.
Mein’s attack took some early prisoners too, including George Wood (SwiftCarbon Pro Cycling) who was third in the overall standings prior to the evening’s racing, Graham Briggs (Vitus Pro Cycling p/b Brother UK) and Gabriel Cullaigh (Team Wiggins Le Col) also of note. A total of 34 riders would register as DNF’s by the end of the race after Mein’s blistering run to the finish.

Thomas Mein was riding so strongly, Bostock struggled to hold his wheel on the technical and slippery streets of Newcastle. The Tarteletto – Isorex rider had been on the front of the under-23 duo for close to an hour, Bostock providing little help. However, it would still come down to a sprint between the two for the finish line, eventually being taken by in-form Bostock fresh from his wins at the Otley GP and Wales Open Crit.
