News: Women’s Tour of Britain Stage Hosts

Glasgow will host the overall finish of the Lloyds Tour of Britain Women this summer (5-8 June), as the host venues for the 2025 race, which will head to Scotland for the first time, are announced today, marking 50 days to go until the race.

The 2025 edition will take place in the north east of England and Scotland, with the opening two stages taking in Dalby Forest and the North York Moors National Park and the Tees Valley, before heading to the south of Scotland for a leg in the Scottish Borders, ahead of the final stage on a city centre circuit in Glasgow.

Dalby Forest, Redcar, Hartlepool, Saltburn-by-the-Sea, Kelso and Glasgow all make their debut as host venues on the route of the UK’s biggest professional women’s race that will once again be a round of the UCI Women’s WorldTour, bringing world-class racing to local communities.

Commenting on the announcement, Jonathan Day, Managing Director of British Cycling Events, said; “We are excited to once again be breaking new ground with the Lloyds Tour of Britain Women with four completely new stages for the race. We have first visits for the race to Dalby Forest and the North York Moors National Park, from where we will race through North Yorkshire and into the Tees Valley to visit Redcar, Hartlepool, and Saltburn. We know Redcar and Saltburn well as past men’s Tour of Britain and national championships venues, and I am sure Saltburn Bank as a stage finish will prove very popular with fans.

“Then we take the Lloyds Tour of Britain Women to Scotland for the first time and two exciting stages. We know what a great town Kelso is to host a combined start and finish in its picturesque market square, and that the Scottish Borders roads make for great racing, while being able to finish the race overall in the heart of a major city like Glasgow will be a great way to round out this year’s Tour.

THE STAGES
The 2025 Lloyds Tour of Britain Women gets underway on Thursday 5 June with an opening stage between Dalby Forest and Redcar crossing the beautiful North York Moors National Park after a start at the Forestry England visitor centre site close to Pickering.

This will mark the first visits for the race to Dalby Forest, the North York Moors National Park and the Tees Valley. The latter after hosting two stages of the men’s race in recent years will host the finish of stage one, at Redcar, as well as the whole of day two of the Lloyds Tour of Britain Women.

The second stage, on Friday 6 June, is entirely within the Tees Valley, and will see riders facing a testing uphill finish at Saltburn-by-the-Sea.

Starting from Hartlepool Marina, close to the National Museum of the Royal Navy Hartlepool, riders will head through the Tees Valley before tackling the famous hairpins of the 15% coastal climb of Saltburn Bank twice, the second time for the finish of the stage.

The 300-metre climb up from the sea of Saltburn Bank in Saltburn-by-the-Sea will be familiar to British riders in the peloton, as the location for the Lloyds National Road Race Championships in 2023 and 2024, won on both occasions by Pfeiffer Georgi.

The hosting of major cycling events such as the Lloyds Tour of Britain Women is part of partnership agreed between British Cycling and Tees Valley Combined Authority to grow cycling and tourism links in the region.

The penultimate leg on Saturday 7 June will be held in another area new to the women’s peloton, although already a popular location with spectators after ten visits for the Lloyds Tour of Britain Men, as the Scottish Borders host a stage starting and finishing in the picturesque market town of Kelso.

Riders will tackle a testing and spectator friendly stage route around the Eildon Hills similar to that which opened the men’s event last September, including visits to Melrose and Jedburgh, as well as a passage of the finish line on Kelso’s cobbled market square.

The Lloyds Tour of Britain Women concludes in Glasgow for the first time on Sunday 8 June, where the successor to 2024 champion Lotte Kopecky will be crowned. Riders will tackle ten laps of an 8.4-kilometre (5.3 miles) city centre circuit, starting and finishing on Glasgow Green, which will be a central hub of cycling themed events and activities, including the chance for professionals on a closed road city centre circuit after the race on the Sunday.

Further announcements, including the detailed routes for the four stages and the participating teams for the 2025 Lloyds Tour of Britain Women, will be announced in the coming weeks.
