It was yet another golden day at the velodrome in Rio with the Women’s Team Pursuit winning Gold and Becky James Silver in the Keirin

Olympics: More Gold for GB on Day 3
It was another night where the rest of the world must be wondering what they have to do to beat the Great Britain Team. There were several highlights and none bigger than Laura Trott, Joanna Rowsell Shand, Elinor Barker and Katie Archibald not just winning Gold but smashing the World Record.
Just as significant however was the Silver for Becky James in the Women’s Keirin where the Welsh girl came back from a career threatening injury to show lightening speed to put herself in a position to challenge for the medals. And if all that wasn’t enough, the Men’s Sprint will see an all British final between Jason Kenny and Callum Skinner after they both blew their rivals away in the semi finals.
Women’s Team Pusuit
What a day this was for the four GB girls. Not only did they hit back at the USA who broke the World Record in round 1 only to see GB do the same in the very next heat, the final was as close as many expected as GB put the pressure on and broke the team from USA, in the process reducing the World Record to a sizzling 4.10.
After trailing early on, the quartet of Laura Trott, Katie Archibald, Elinor Barker and Joanna Rowsell-Shand cranked up the pace to devastating effect, winning in 4:10.236 — nearly two seconds quicker than the world record they set in the heats.
During the  team on team race, GB held the USA in the first kilo before upping the pressure and opened up a lead in the following 2000 metres and with the four Brits piling on the pressure, it was too much for the USA who were down to three before they got to the final kilometre.
You could sense the team from USA were now on the limit and the only drama for GB was when Laura Trott came down the track late after a big turn on the front and had to chase her teammates to the finish line. But in winning Gold, 24-year-old Trott became the first British woman to win three Olympic gold medals.
Trott said afterwards “(Winning a third gold medal) was something I wanted to achieve and to do it alongside these three girls is just incredible. The feeling we were getting, it was like this machine was coming together. To come away with a time of 4.10 was honestly incredible.”
“We knew a world record was on the cards but it almost felt unreal,” Trott told the media “I actually said to Katie, ‘that was possibly the easiest world record we’ve ever got’. I’ve never been in a team that feels so seamless. You can tell that everyone was giving 100 percent to get to the finish line first and I could not be prouder right now.”
Joanna Rowsell Shand, a double Gold winner having won in London as well, said of the victory “This means the world to me. I won gold four years ago but this was a much harder battle. It has not all been going our way over the last two years, but we pulled together.”
“In round 1 we rode more within ourselves, the girls came off the track saying that was about 80%. All we had to do in that ride was beat Canada, which we did, so we thought we might go a bit quicker in the final, but we also thought we might run a bit closer with America. You always go quicker when you’re chasing a team — I think we knew we had more in the tank.”
Katie Archibald explained “We were convinced it was going to go down to the wire. America had come out harder than us. In all the previous rides, we’ve not been up to the last kilometre. That means they’ve been having a tail on us. Trying to close down that gap. I had a sneaky look at the end to see if we were there. When you get that, you have that chomping on the bit sensation. We felt like superheroes.â€
Elinor Barker meanwhile said “We are incredibly lucky that we’ve been able to pull it off on the day and go faster than we’ve ever gone before. We’ve had some incredibly training sessions and we broke the world record a couple of times in training which we managed to keep quite quiet as well”.
“But we’ve also had some terrible training sessions as well so it’s all about how it goes on the day really. I was struggling a bit, it was a shame we couldn’t go that little bit faster and get under 4:10″
Meanwhile, after winning Silver in the Women’s Keirin, Beck James told the media “I can’t believe it’s happened. I came in with good form and I love the Keirin and I love racing. Once I got through the first round, I just wanted to enjoy the day. I was at the back and was just thinking ‘when do I go, when do I go? I had so much speed. Today was so special. I have 10 of my family here – my mum has never been on a long-haul flight beforeâ€.
