Tour of Britain Chat: GB’s James Knox
A talented climber in the Tour of Britain is Great Britain’s James Knox who was 8th overall in the Tour de l’Avenir this year and has had a lot of good results in 2017. So VeloUK grabbed a few words with him before the start of a stage in the Tour of Britain.
Asked how he felt about the 8th overall, James replied “I went there ambitious hoping to do a good ride and so to pull that off in some sense was a great feeling, I’m pretty chuffed”.
James is a known for his climbing ability and the Tour de l’Avenir certainly had that this year with three back to back mountain stages. Asked did he feel any pressure in the race to come up with a result, James replied “you put a lot of pressure on yourself in a race like that. You want to impress teams so in that sense, I put quite a bit of pressure on myself but I had been feeling good in training before it so I was hoping I’d go well”.
James added that he knew a few of the climbs from the previous year and being based in Girona a lot of the year, he was able to get plenty of climbing in during training. “You know what to expect as they are long and hard and you just have to grit your teeth”.
On whether the season overall has been a success, James replied “it has been a good year, an improvement on the year before which is a nice thing to have, it’s nice to see yourself progressing forward and this year I have had four second places in tough UCI races so in that sense it’s been good”.
These include Under 23 Liège – Bastogne – Liège stage 4 Tour Alsace and Stage 7 Tour de l’Avenir.
Asked what his goals are for the Tour of Britain, he replies “this race is a bit different because realistically it doesn’t suit me for the GC so yesterday (stage 1), I was taking care of Chris (Lawless) in the sprint. I took him and Ollie up with 6 or 7 k to go and did a few k on the front trying to keep them in position. So I’m just getting stuck in with different things like that and I’ll see how it goes”.
James then confirmed he has something in the pipeline team wise for next year … Good luck to James for the rest of the season.
