Rising star Hannah Barnes and the Orica-AIS team will line up against some of the world’s best female riders at Prudential RideLondon Grand Prix in central London on Saturday 3 August.

The women’s Grand Prix criterium is part of the Mayor of London’s two-day world-class cycling festival, Prudential RideLondon, which takes place over the weekend of 3 and 4 August.
Barnes (above) will be hoping to build on her Women’s Tour Series and British Championship victories but the MG Maxifuel rider will face tough opposition from a talented international field.
Among them are the Honda Wiggle quartet of the in-form double Olympic gold medallist Laura Trott, fellow team pursuit gold medallists Joanna Rowsell and Dani King and 2013 world champion Elinor Barker in the Prudential RideLondon Grand Prix in central London on the evening of Saturday 3 August.
Also confirmed is the Orica-AIS team including veteran Dutch international Loes Gunnewijk, South Korea’s national road race champion Sunguen Gu and the Australian duo of former junior world individual pursuit champion Jessie McLean and 2012 Olympian Amanda Spratt.
A field of 70+ riders is expected to contest the Prudential RideLondon criterium on a 1.3-mile course around St James’s Park finishing on The Mall. The event will be televised by the BBC.
Hannah Barnes
Team: MG Maxifuel
Date of birth: 04/05/1993
Home town: Towcester
The dominant rider on the British domestic scene in 2013, Barnes took three wins and the overall in the Johnson Health Tech GP Series during May and June, plus the IG London Nocturne victory. In road races too she has been in fine form, winning the Curlew Cup round of the National Road Race Series and taking podium positions in a number of other races throughout the year. Barnes is definitely one for the future and should be considered among the favourites for the Prudential RideLondon Grand Prix.
Loes Gunnewijk
Team: Orica-AIS
Date of birth: 27/11/1980
Home town: Groenlo, Netherlands
Winner of last year’s Het Nieusblad classic one-day race, Gunnewijk is a regular in the Dutch national squad, helping Marianne Vos to her victory in the 2012 Olympic Games Road Race in London. A strong time-trialist, indeed Gunnewijk has been a Dutch National Champion in both the road race and against the clock, the 32-year-old is often used as Orica – AIS’ captain on the road.
Sunguen Gu
Team: Orica-AIS
Date of birth: 19/09/1984
Home town: Daegu City, South Korea
The first female professional cyclist from Korea, Gu is the reigning South Korean National Road Race Champion. A graduate from the UCI’s World Cycling Centre in Aigle, Switzerland, Gu has made the transition from being a prolific track rider, and is indeed a former Asian Champion in the Points Race on the track.
Jessie McLean
Team: Orica-AIS
Date of birth: 17/10/1985
Home town: Ballarat, Australia
Junior World Individual Pursuit Champion in 2003, the rider from Victoria is often used as a leadout rider for her Orica – AIS team, but with that experience and wins in major Australian criteriums, such as the NSW GP Series, McLean could be one to watch in the Prudential RideLondon Grand Prix.
Amanda Spratt
Team: Orica-AIS
Date of birth: 17/09/1987
Home town: Penrith, Australia
Spratt got the teams debut season off to a good start last year, soloing to victory in the Australian National Road Race Championships. The New South Wales native went on to race for Australia at the London Olympics. A former Oceania Champion on the track in the Points Race, Spratt also raced in the World BMX Championships as a child.
