York Cycleworks didn’t have time to recover from their Yearsley race last Sunday before they were back out again promoting a third and fourth category race on the Wheldrake circuit just outside York

Thanks Julie Rodman

An excellent event with all pot holes marked and red flagged, along with Traffic Management making it as safe as possible for the fifty four riders that took to the start line.

The roads are very rural and banked with high hedges so there was very little opportunity to get away from the bunch without being seen and brought back quickly. Even the newly tarmaced road through Wheldrake didn’t split the bunch up.

The odd rider tried to get away only to be brought back again quickly and on the last lap of a three lap race, three riders made a move and got 10 seconds but the run into the final two miles soon brought them back again.

It was always going to be a bunch sprint finish and experienced rider Ged Millward from Ilkley CC won from the promoting clubs Andrew Windrum, York Cycleworks and new rider to the area, Ben Harvey Rutland CC.

The weather stayed fine, great racing from all involved and I think the promoting club deserve a well earned drink or their last weeks races. Job well and truly done properly.

This is the second of the series of six races the next one being at Kirby Misperton on June 13th organised by Malton Wheelers.
