Road chaos causes problems for riders trying to get to a great day of racing at the Shrewsbury Sports Village Circuit Races on Sunday

On a scorching hot day there were big challenges getting to the Shrewsbury Sports Village Circuit Races with the M54 and M6 becoming car parks as an accident and road works on the approach to the Cosford Airshow meant that many riders were delayed or didn’t make it at all.

For the riders that made it there was a great day of racing from under 8s to Elite Men and Women. In the Elite Women’s race Youth A local girl Beth Coupland used her dispensation card to good effect moving up and getting in the break of 3 riders with the race eventually being won by Lydia Gurley of Birmingham University CC.

The Elite Men’s race was animated by attacks with Dom Jelfs fresh from the IG Nocturne very active but possibly doing a little too much and when the final break of 4 riders was established Jelfs wasn’t in it. The breakaway lapped the bunch literally on the finish line and some quick thinking by the Commissaires sent the bell ringer running to the back straight to give the bunch the bell. Jacob Tipper of Biketreks was a tyre width in front of Ewan McDonald of NFTO after threading their way through the bunch in the final few metres.

There were plenty of podiums for the promoting club Mid Shropshire Wheelers with Kirk Vickers taking the 3rd Category win and rapidly heading to a 2nd Cat licence.
