A warm and perfect evening for racing at the Welwyn Friday Night Track League with seventy four riders – 34 Seniors and 40 Youth riders (12th July)

Luke Hattersley continued his winning ways from the previous week despite being elevated to the Senior A group – he broke away with 2 laps remaining and held on to the line. Sam Dossett repeated the technique in the senior B 10 lap.
The two Odds and Evens Block handicap events saw mixed fortunes for the Senior B group – the slow start in race 1 saw the chasing A riders reduce the lead and catch the leaders with a lap to go. A late attack was nullified and the top three riders were led in by John McClelland. The B group in the second event worked well together and held off the chasers to win by 100 metres – team works pays.
The Youth A contingent produced a good battle between Frank Longstaff and Cameron Gutteridge with each winning two hard fought events. Theo Modell making his first visit to the League this year shared the spoils with series leader Will Raymond each taking two wins in the BC series.
The large CDE group of 16 riders had a fine evening of competitive racing with different winners in all 4 events. The final race of the night – the senior 10 mile was a cracking finale – breaks were attempted but reeled in as a high pace was maintained for the whole race. Bursts of high speed reduced the field in the final laps and at the line the race went to John McClelland from Mike Broadwith with Cameron Gutteridge (youthA) an excellent third with John Saysell fourth
