Large Turnout for Round 13 of Royal London 360 Youth League on the Isle of Man on Tuesday
There was a large turnout of 302 competitors for round 13 of Team Royal London 360 Isle of Man’s youth league, staged at the National Sports Centre last Tuesday night in near tropical conditions.
In the novices class Caitlyn Hampson edged out twin sister Chloe to take the honours for a ninth time. Tiana Kelly was a solid third and Ryan Batty won the bunch sprint for fourth. William Lomas and Aaron Kinvig completed the top six, with newcomer Emily Rewsin doing well to finish an impressive tenth on her debut.
Myles Le Geyt broke away from the field to win the born 2008 & later event by a clear margin. Ollie Eyres was a lonely second and Fearne Bregazzi led Eddy Dillon, T.J.Teare, Joel Long, Lennon Moore and Summer Peters home to grab third. Nicole Delooze was a safe ninth and Alec Sorby outsprinted George Kinnish, Edward Field and Jack Cain to secure the final place on the top ten leader board.
Consolidating his position at the top of the overall standings, Cian Howard ousted breakaway companion Orry Lund to pick up maximum points in the born 2007 category. Dexter Russell surged ahead of Archie Dunn on the final lap to claim third and leading girl Florence Griffin pipped Jemma Quayle and Charlie Morris in the tussle for fifth. The fast finishing Ben Davies caught and passed Charlie Scarffe in the closing stages to snatch eighth and Joseph Devereau ousted Greg Kelly in the bunch gallop for tenth.
Four riders contested the finish of the born 2006 race, with Cian Jackson getting the better of Ivan Sorby, Zachary Dowson and Owen Collins in the final lunge for the line. Harry Corkish rode away from Corey Peters and Harry Eyres to nab fifth and Harry Price was too strong for Nicola Quaye, Sophie Smith, Tomas Flowers and Thomas Reed in the rush for eighth. Jenson Artus led the second wave of the chasers in to bag 13th place.
In the born 2005 age group Harry Kneen outgunned fellow frontrunners Oliver Corkish and Mairi Harrison in the final dash for the chequered flag. Oliver Sykes was a good fourth and Teddy Dunn held off Tyler Annis in the battle for fifth. Chloe Dillon led out the bunch sprint, taking seventh place ahead of Harry Boyle, James Scott and Frank Kinnish, who wrapped up the top ten.
Making his move on the penultimate lap, Dillon Dowson escaped from a leading group of five riders to score his maiden win in the born 2004 class. Ralf Holden got the better of Cameron Dudley in the fight for second and top girl Kiera Prentice came from behind to pip Ben Boyle for fourth. Nathan Slack won the sprint for sixth ahead of James Devereau, Nathan O’Connor, Megan Boardman and Amy Quayle.
Jonty Bregazzi just had the edge on Percy Hampton in a very close finish to the born 2003 three lapper. Matthew Cooil kept Jack Christian, Matthew Black and Tyler Hannay at bay in the struggle for third, with Jamie Gelling and Ryan Quirk trailing in behind them for seventh and eighth. Darcy Cain took the girls’ prize in ninth place.
In the born 2002 & earlier grouping Lucas Mudie beat Kaitlin Slack and Aaron Lund in the final sprint for the line. James Harrison was dropped by the leading trio in the closing stages, but stayed clear of chasers Emma Draper, Joseph Corkish and Corrin Leeming to salvage fourth. Shellan Leeming, Ciara Sowerby and Libbie Christian rounded off the top ten.
Percy Hampton left nothing to chance in the under 10 racing bikes, attacking his seven breakaway partners on the penultimate lap and riding away unchallenged for a fine solo victory. Jonty Bregazzi got the verdict in the sprint for second with Matthew Cooil edging out Matthew Black, Dillon Dowson, Ralf Holden and Cameron Dudley for third. Darcy Cain, Kiera Prentice and Mairi Harrison were the first three girls in 11th, 13th and 14th places respectively.
A group of 14 riders led the way for the entire six laps of the under 12 racing bikes. At the finish it was Tosh Teare who took the win a short distance ahead of Max Walker and Charlie Gibson, with Adam Scarffe, Conor Gelling and best girl Emily Bridson making up the top six.
A fast pace from the start of the under 16 racing bikes made it difficult for any attacks to succeed. The lead group of around 19 riders was eventually whittled down to seven at the finish where Matthew Bostock grabbed the victory. Nathan Draper was second and Owen Dudley, who has only just recovered from a broken collar bone, a fine third. Matthew Draper and Michael Moss were fourth and fifth, with British Cycling Talent Team member Elizabeth Holden the best girl in a very good sixth spot. Conor Davies was the first under 14 rider in seventh position.
