World Champions, Olympic medallists and stage winners from all three Grand Tours will be on the start line at Sunday’s RideLondon-Surrey Classic
![]() |
Double Tour de France Green Jersey winner Peter Sagan headlines the field on the back of his recent successful defence of his points title in Le Tour, and the Slovakian Champion will be joined by a further four Tour de France stage winners.
Sagan is the pre-race favourite to contest the sprint for victory on The Mall, with past Milan-San Remo winners Matt Goss (2011) and Gerald Ciolek (2013) also likely to be among those contesting the win at the end of the 140-mile race.
Fellow fast men Italian Sacha Modolo, Sky Pro Cycling’s Ben Swift, fresh from the Tour de Pologne, and former Tour of Britain winner Romain Feillu are also riders to look out for among the 150 rider entry, particularly if it comes down to a sprint.
Nine of the teams riding the RideLondon-Surrey Classic arrive in London having competed in the Tour de France, winning 11 of the 21 stages.
World Champion and London 2012 Olympic Silver medallist Jack Bobridge heads the Belkin Pro Cycling line-up with British favourite David Millar headlining the Garmin-Sharp line-up, which also includes Jack Bauer (former Endura Racing), who crashed out of the Tour de France in spectacular style.
Riders will contest three King of the Mountains climbs on the route through the Surrey Hills, at Newlands Corner, on the first, second and third passages of Leith Hill and then Box Hill, while the intermediate sprints classification is likely to draw the attention of a strong British domestic entry.
The day’s first sprint comes at Hampton Court after 21 miles of racing, before further sprints at Dorking and Cobham on the run back into London. The Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic provides an early chance ahead of September’s Tour of Britain for riders from Britain’s six domestic UCI Continental teams to take on the world’s leading teams on the roads of London and Surrey.
In particular aiming to impress will be Team IG Sigma Sport, with the premises of both sponsors based on the route in London (IG) and Kingston Upon Thames (Sigma Sport), and a number of riders, such as Peter Hawkins and Wouter Sybrandy, living local to the route.
Likewise fellow Surrey professionals Erick Rowsell (Team NetApp Endura) and Elliott Porter (Rapha Condor JLT) will be relishing the chance to compete on home roads against the world’s best.
Also joining the start list is the Great Britain team, with an Under-23 line-up that includes reigning Points Race World Champion Simon Yates and a line-up that points to some of the future stars of British Cycling.
David Millar
In total riders from 26 countries are due to take the start. The final start list for the inaugural Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic will be published on Saturday afternoon with the race starting from Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park at 12:45 and expected to finish on The Mall at around 18:00.
The BBC will broadcast 4.5 hours of the Prudential RideLondon weekend, with highlights from all events and live coverage of the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic on BBC1 from 11:30-14:00 and 16:30-18:30. In addition, full live coverage of the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic will be available on the Red Button.
