Matt Bottrill celebrates 20th win of the season in North Notts Olympic 10 mile time trial on Saturday

Matthew Bottrill (www.drag2zero.com) was once again in fine form on Saturday winning the North Notts Olympic 10 mile time trial in a time of 19.14, the only rider under 20 minutes.
The race was part of the build up for Cycling Time Trials circuit championships in two weeks time where the clash for the title will see some of the UK’s finest time trialists taking part in the 30 mile event with the battle between Micheal Hutchinson (In-Gear Trainsharp) and Bottrill, being the main attraction.
Back to Bottrill’s convincing victory in the North Notts Olympic 10 mile time trial, the course started and finished in the town of Long-Bennington in Lincolnshire. The out and back circuit included a few tricky roundabouts to negotiate plus a couple of short sharp climbs and with very high winds and gusts of 33mph, it was going to be a testing day for the 110 riders taking part.
Asking for an early start, Bottrill was one of the first riders home in a very rapid 19:14. It was on the opening five mile section that he did most of the damaged with a halfway time of 10:10, just under 30mph.
Into the tail wind finish, Bottrill put his aerodynamic position into good use and stopped the clock in a rapid 19:14. While not his fastest time on the course, it was one of the best rides he’s ever done.
Following that, out on the course, there was a good battle hotting up for the final positions on the podium with the riders contesting that being James Perkins (Buzz Cycles-Zenith CC) with 20:14 and Matthew Sinclair (Lutterworth Cycle Center) 20:25.
It was a real battle between the pair but both where closely followed by Adam Gascgione (Team Pedal Power) with 20:30 and Julian Ramsbottom (Scunthorpe Poly) 20:43.
With the race finished, and with the rain now bucketing down, Bottrill said of the ride “It was a really windy day out there today and I just road the first 5 miles like it was the finish. Then, I just did what I could on the return leg.”
“I’m really pleased with today’s performance and know my form is building each week toward my two final target’s on the 2013 season. The build up toward these races is going well and I’m just focusing on doing my own thing. I will keep pushing myself to the limit over the next few weeks.”
