The former Hackney CC rider in London has had a season of riding pro races with Madison-Genesis including RideLondon and a bunch of UCI 1.1 races. Being selected for his team to do the Tour of Britain is a big deal for the youngster, racing with riders that are big heros to many a British fan.

“Being a first year senior, this is quite an exciting opportunity doing the Tour of Britain” he said before a small training ride in Peebles the day before the race starts. “It’s daunting really to be selected for the Tour of Britain against Wiggins and Quintana who go very quick up hills!”

“I am bit nervous but I feel I can help the team out quite a lot in a supporting role for Ian Bibby and Liam Holohan.” Alex is aware of how special it is to get selected for such a massive race. “Some riders in their middle or late 20s really badly want to get into the Tour of Britain team because it’s such a prestigious event, the biggest on the British calendar”.

To prepare for the race, Alex, along with other riders in his team, has been in Belgium riding anything from a UCI 1.1 to pro kermesses. “That was difficult as they were one day races we did back to back against fresh riders every day” he said Being looked after by two former pros though in Roger Hammond and Julian Winn, the teenager is sure to learn a lot in the race and who knows, even pop up in a break given the chance.

Good luck to Alex
