Report/Results: Crosstrax End of season Criteriums at York Sport

2013_Sept-Oct_Vanilla_BannerV3R1

Well it certainly is October and the enthusiasm out there this evening was the same as at the beginning of the season. What a fantastic nights fast racing was to be seen on the York Sport circuit.

The was the first promotion of Crosstrax at the circuit and they did the club proud. Great flags at the finish to guide the riders home in the flood lit conditions. We just wished they’d had the wind in the opposite direction…..back wind finishes certainly gave the commissaires and judges a work out as well.

The first race saw thirty two third and fourth cats take to the start line, attacks were fast and furious and it set off at a rapid pace. Strong riders always at the front where the team swift duo of Simon Beldon and Alastair Wareham, along with the clay cross riders Chris Last and Joseph Clark. With the wind blowing the riders down the home straight small groups of two and three slopped off the front, they came together with a nice group of nine working well.

The final lap saw them strung out from the hairpin to go towards the right hand finish where Alastair Wareham was showing his strength to take the win from Jon Dexter We Live Mountains and Joseph Clark Clay Cross. Alastair gaining his second cat licence in the process. This race was run with an average speed of 46kph for the duration so the riders certainly weren’t hanging around out there.

The 2/3/4 event saw sixteen riders on the line. With a lot of strong riders in the bunch it was to be a good race, the first attack of the evening saw Russ Ellis Dirtwheels (back after his cyclo-cross training) go clear with Jo Clark from Clay Cross RT, these were to work well until the other riders thought enough is enough and six laps later started winding them in. The odd rider tried to get away but with the strong wind it was a case of stay together for the final sprint. Nathan Wilson was to have none of that and broke clear in the final laps of the race, he went on to take a well deserved 1st place and gain his first category licence. Paul McDonald Chevin Cycles brought the bunch home for 2nd place with Craig Armitage taking third.

It was a wonderfully friendly evening of racing and everyone went home happy and refreshed, and on a positive note not a crash in sight! Roll on 2014 season this circuit is starting to get popular.
