Whilst the field lacked top riders such as Helen Wyman and Marianne Vos, many of the familiar names racing the major ‘cross events in Europe, including the long running Dutch/Belgium Superprestige series, were there.

The course for the event was a river of mud after a lot of rain in the area and Harris admitted that she was nervous before the race as it was not a venue where she has performed well before. Not something to play well on someone’s mind before a major event but Harris put that behind her and started the race well.

Along with her trade team mate, Harris led the race with Sophie de Boer (Holland) but with Sanne Cant mounting a challenge, Harris upped a gear and left de Boer to fend off the Belgian whilst the British champion ploughed on through the mud to a memorable victory.

After the race, her reaction was short but to the point, “After a really heavy week of training in the Derbyshire hills, I’m happy and surprised with my second win of the season in Hamme Zogge”.
