Dare2b enters Sportif and Women’s Elite racing arena with CiCLE Classics at Rutland and Thoresby weekends
![]() |
After four years as clothing sponsor and supplier to the Rutland – Melton International CiCLE Classic, Dare2b, the extreme sports clothing brand of the Regatta Group, has formally announced their entry into the wider sphere of cycle road cycling by its overall sponsorship of the Rutland Weekend of cycling next April and the newly formulated Thoresby Cycle Festival next May.
Building upon the existing original and popular Rutland CiCLE Tour sportif, which in 2013 saw almost 1000 riders take to the roads of Rutland, the Thoresby venue will offer a ‘sister’ event known as the Thoresby CiCLE Tour with the two events sharing the umbrella title of the Dare2b Supa Sportives.
To be held for the first time over the weekend of 17th and 18th May 2014, the Thoresby Cycle Fest in its revised form will also feature for the first time a major Elite Womens road race forming part of the British Cycling Women’s National RR series. This event, to be known as the Womens CiCLE Classic, will carry a minimum £500 first prize, and together with the Thoresby weekend will be sponsored by Dare2b.
Formerly known as ‘Pennies in the park’, the picturesque and otherwise tranquil Thoresby Park venue will continue to feature all its previous events including a new British Open Championship for ‘Old Ordinaries’. It is hoped that the widening of the weekend will however attract a whole new audience to this popular North Notts. venue.
Speaking about the new format and events CiCLE Classics Race Director Colin Clews said, ‘ We are delighted that Dare2b have agreed to join us as overall sponsors of the Rutland and Thoresby Weekends and of the wider CiCLE Tour promotions in particular. This joint collaboration is important both to progressing the ambitions for the future of the CiCLE Classic events and to the revised marketing direction of our sponsors who wish to turn their attention towards road cycling in its widest form’.
Continuing Clews said ‘ The inclusion of the Thoresby Park venue into our plans enables new ideas to be developed and both the CiCLE Tour and the Women’s CiCLE Classic will be ground breaking events and set new standards for both disciplines. The Women’s race being particularly exciting coming just a few days after the inaugural Women’s Tour of Britain. As with any CiCLE Classics promotion the Women’s Classic race will be potentially the most challenging Women’s single day race ever staged in Britain involving extensive off road sections’.
On behalf of Dare2b, a spokesperson added, ‘ One of our main priorities at Dare2b is to develop the brand further into the cycling world and show the industry our innovative and diverse cycling products and technologies. Being a part of both Sportives and the wider CiCLE events gives us an excellent opportunity to do this, and we are very excited to be involved in what we believe are going to be great promotions for all cycling enthusiasts.’
