With around 200 competitors taking part in the various categories of races of which nearly 70 were children the day was deemed a great success. Paul Zarb KCC Club Chairman said ‘three of the guys in the club who regularly race cyclo-cross and wanted to us to promote and organise an event that would allow the younger competitors in as well as the adults, and we hit the nail on the head with a great turnout from the youngsters ’

The event staged hosted 6 separate races under 8’s, 12’s, Youth, a combined (Juniors, Womens, vets over 50), Vets over 40 and a Seniors open.

The course was large largely flat on a mixture of grass and tarmac but for the adult riders it featured what the winner of the ladies race Gillian Palmer (Sandy Wallace Cycles) described as the “Swiss roll” here the riders rode into a decreasing circle then on reaching the centre cycling out on a different path in the opposite direction. Gillian added “it was something different… it was tough with all those corners and dead turns which made for some great competitive finishes”. Another competitor (Stuart Allan of Kinross CC) described on Facebook the feature as a ‘Spiral of death’.

The weather held and the circuit held only beginning to break up towards the end. KCC rewarded all the children who participated with a medal having been generously donated by Havelock Europa Plc. KCC also received support from Mozolowski and Murray, Scottish Wood and Valtti paints to make up the event hurdles
