Pure Telecom, an award-winning independent communications provider, based on Shrewsbury Business Park, has signed up to sponsor the Shrewsbury Grand Prix.

The event on May 25, organised by the Paramount Cycling Racing Team, is proving very popular with cyclists from across the country, with the amateur race already full.
Slots are still left for the professional and ladies-only races. but organisers say they are going fast.

“I am delighted to be one of the key sponsors of this exciting event,” said Matt Sandford, director of Pure Telecom. ‘We are keen to be associated with good sporting activities in the county and this is obviously a unique event having been absent for 20 years.

“A lot of hard work has obviously gone into organising this and hopefully our involvement will help to develop this is a regular event,” he added. “We are excited to work with Pure Communications,” said Shrewsbury Grand Prix event organiser Ben Lawrence, managing director of Beaumont Lawrence, which is also sponsoring the race, along with Stan’s Cycles and Cooper Green Pooks.

“We wanted good quality, well reputed, and respected local companies to promote the event. “Matt has been a client of ours for many years and has been very encouraging and supportive. Its been great fun working with Matt so far and I can certainly see why he has such a successful company.”

The Shrewsbury Grand Prix will be on a tight circuit in the historic town with a packed programme of events with a 45-minute ladies only race, an amateur race of around 50 minutes and an hour long pro-race.

Mr Lawrence said planning for the event is going well, with announcements to be made in the near future about family-fun events to encourage youngsters to get on their bikes too. The course will run around part of the town centre with The Square being the hub of the event. Roads will be closed to traffic from approximately mid morning until 8pm.

The route will take riders from The Square along High Street, Shoplatch, St Johns Hill, Cross Hill, Swan Hill, College Hill, Princess Street, Milk Street and then back on to the High Street.
