News – Dwars door Vlaanderen First of the Cobbled Classics
There are 11 climbs in the 2014 edition: Nieuwe Kwaremont, Kettenberg/Holleweg, Leberg, Valkenberg, Eikenberg, Taiienberg, Oude Kwaremont, Paterberg, Vossenhol, Holstraat, and Nokereberg.
“This race will open officially the cobblestoned classics in Belgium,” says Omega Pharma Quickstep’s Sport Director Wilfried Peeters. “It’s a race that in the past brought a few results to the team, such as Niki Terpstra winning in the 2012 edition”.
“It’s also important as preparation for the next appointments. It will be the first race in Belgium for Tom after Paris-Nice. It will be a good test for him to see how the situation is with his condition in this moment.”
“But, there’s not just Tom to note in our selection. We have a strong team with strong riders able to shine on this kind of parcours. The weather condition will be good. We are really looking forward to this race to try and do well and to start in the best way possible our northern Classics campaign.”
