News – Legacy supports racing at Mallory Park

Thanks to Leicestershire 2012 Legacy grant funding and support from local businesses, the Mallory Park Road Race League Cycling Series is set to be the best ever.

Racing starts on 15th April with events for girls and boys up to 16 years old, juniors, men and women through to August with some fantastic prizes on offer.

Mike Twelves event organiser and former GB International racer states “Thanks to the Legacy Funding we are now able take this well established race series to another level. The riders will benefit from a slicker operation, which enables us to promote more races and provide better opportunities for youth riders and ladies only events. This in turn will increase entries and help us to reach out to the community to promote cycling in Leicestershire”.

Along with the funding, the series has also attracted support from industry giants Raleigh, the world famous Nottingham Bike Manufacturer who are sponsoring the Youth Series. Their marketing director Geoff Giddings said. “We firmly believe in promoting the British cycle racing scene, our support for the Mallory Park series is just one example of how we are supporting local activities and helping British Cycling”.

senior finish

Local company GC Bike Fit Studio are also supporting the Senior Leagues. Their Director, Richard Chapman, commented. “This series represents one of the cornerstones of competitive cycling in this region. We see being the title sponsor for the senior leagues as a great honour”.

The start of the race series coincides with the opening of Mallory Park’s new cycling venture. Chris Hewgill operator of Cycling Mallory said. “Mallory Park is the ultimate cycling and triathlon venue. We have a 1.2 mile road circuit, 16 acre lake and are in the process of developing a mountain bike circuit on the outer perimeter. We are working closely with British Cycling and British Triathlon to provide a second to none event, coaching and recreational facility which will cater for families and beginners to professional athletes.”
