Lucy Garner is getting closer to taking her first victory of the season after sprinting to third place at today’s Grand Prix Dottignies.

Team News – Lucy Garner goes close at Grand Prix Dottignies

A young Team Giant-Shimano women’s team headed to the one-day race looking for a result and they came away with a strong podium place in the finishing sprint after a strong lead-out in the final kilometres.

After coming off the podium, Lucy said: “The team were amazing today, they really were. We communicated throughout the whole race and we had a good plan for the finish. No one could match us in the lead-out at the end and I wish I could have finished off the amazing job that the team did, but I am happy with third here.”

Team Giant-Shimano coach, Ruud Verhagen said: “The team did a great race today and finished it off with a perfect lead-out for Lucy who was only passed in the last 100m for the win. It came down to a photo finish for second but Lucy was awarded third place”.

“I am really happy with how strong this young team were here today and how they performed. The younger riders in the team are developing well and learning off the more experienced ones which makes the whole team stronger.”
