Sportive Report – Gran Fondo Conwy
EVENT PRESS RELEASE
The sportive was enjoyed by over 700 riders, who each tackled one of three beautiful yet challenging routes of the 42-mile Bach, the 70-mile Canol and the monster 104-mile Mawr. The sportive which was organised by North Wales event specialists, Always Aim High Events took the cyclists around the some of the best views, roads and climbs the counties of Conwy and Denbighshire had to offer.
One of the highlights of the event was the Kinetica ‘Storm the Orme’ time trial. This section gave the riders the opportunity to race against their fellow competitors and the clock in a complete circuit of the infamous Great Orme! The Kinetica Storm the Orme was the only competitive section of the sportive.
The male who Stormed the Orme in the fastest time was John Thelwell with a incredible time of 10 minutes and 41 seconds while the female title was won by Sarah Louise Ryder with a very impressive time of 12 minutes and 31 seconds. Both winners won a number of prizes which were all provided by the time trial sponsor, Kinetica sports nutrition.
The Gran Fondo Conwy will not just be remembered for its incredible cycling but also for the festival atmosphere that was generated at the event village on Conwy Quay. Overlooking Conwy Castle and the Irish Sea, Conwy Quay is the perfect location to host a festival of cycling. Spectators, supporters and members of the local community turned up in their hundreds to watch the action and enjoy the market stalls, displays and other attractions Always Aim High Events had organised.
The Gran Fondo Conwy also welcomed over 50 family riders to take part in its Teulu ride. The Teulu is a completely free 4-mile family cycle ride on closed roads which is suitable for children of all ages. Always Aim High Events Director and event planner, Tim Lloyd, was thrilled with the success of the Gran Fondo Conwy and is already looking forward to the 2015 edition.
“What a day we have had! The feedback we have had so far has been amazing. Lots of people have been amazed by the beauty of the area but also how tough the routes are. There are some monster climbs out there and people who do our events absolutely love challenging themselves – so it’s a perfect mix.
We are already looking forward to next years sportive. We intend to build on the success from today and make the 2015 Gran Fondo Conwy even bigger and better. Entries for the event will open on 1st July, 2014 at midday so make sure you stick the date in you diary.
