The rain clouds threatened just prior to the start of the latest round of the Brooks Cycles Track League on Thursday 31st July 2014 however the event was held in full at the Lyme Valley Velodrome, Newcastle, Staffs. In fact by 7.20pm and the start time the skies were blue and it was warm.
In the A class endurance events Matt Walls ( Velocity RT WD40 ) again made a clean sweep of the four events in winning the 10 lap scratch, devil, points and the 10 mile. Matt is clearly on form for next weeks National Youth Track Championships where he is hoping to make a big impact. In the sprint events Sean Mayer ( Swinnerton Cycles) took full advantage of his main rival in the league Tom Rotherham being abscent in winning the Keiren League event and also a member of the winning team sprint team. The other sprint event was won by Phil Houlton and Steve Cronshaw ( Brooks Cycles) who won the 2 – up flying lap.
The B Class events saw a good spread of points won with James Hollins ( Uttoxeter CC) winning the 8 lap scratch, Liam Davies ( Leicestershire RC) winning the devil and Joshua Dundham ( Team Swift ) taking the 10 mile scratch.
In the youth events the battle continued between Caleb Hill ( Lyme RC ) and Alastair Kennington ( Lyme RC) with Caleb taking the 200m TT and the devil as well as being in the winning team sprint team . Alastairs backed up his two second places with a good win in the course de primes where he won 4 ½ points.
The Freewheelers saw a Go- Ride Night with the weather and holiday season affecting the numbers however the riders who took part did a great job in entertaining the watching crowd of parents. The top point’s scorers were in each group as follows;
Group 1 Aaron Mansell Lyme RC 12 Points
Group 2 Lucy Scott Lyme RC 11 Points
Group 3 Sam Waller 7 Points
