The season came to a close for most riders in the VTTA 25 mile time trial, near Newark in Lincolnshire on Saturday afternoon. A hundred riders lined up to take part under overcaste skies, high air pressure and high gust of winds.
It was going to be a rapid start, but the hardest and longest section of the course would be into a block headwind and it was no surprise that most riders cracked on this section. The race got underway and it was Daniel Barnett www.drag2zero.com who set the standard high with a rapid 52:10.
Dan’s gone from strength to strength this season, rarely out of the top four places and smashing every personal best he’s set this season with the backing from Matt Bottrill performance coaching. It took nearly one hour for this time to be broken and it was Joel Wainman-Team Swift, who also in great form this year producing a time of 51:07.
With the podium nearly complete, it was just the turn of Matthew Bottrill. Seeded at 100 and with no losses in domestic and National Time Trials, Bottrill was soon up to speed and on a mission to finish the season on a high. Not disappointing, Bottrill stopped the clock in an awesome 48:00 for win 27 for 2014.
Summing up the year Bottrill replied “this is going to be a year I will never forget. It’s just been amazing and I’ve enjoyed every minute. I now need some time to recovery and reflect on everything I’ve done. Some of theses rides will go down in history and people will talk about them for years to come and hopefully I will be remembered as a legend of time trialling. That’s all I’ve ever wanted!”
Will Matt return next season? “What do you think” was the reply?
