Monday 3rd November | Thanks Pippa
With the fields virtually full, and riders keen to make an impact, once the initial neutralised warm-up laps were out of the way it, attacks started to come thick and fast. For the advanced riders it was a chance to see what was in the tank after their end-of-season break and for the less experienced riders a baptism of fire!
The first event of the series featured races for A, B and C group riders, with each group competing four times in a combination of scratch, points and elimination races.
With time running out towards the end of the evening, the organisers made the decision to reduce the length of the final two races – but with some extremely tired legs and lungs by then the riders were happy to comply!
Some may have walked away from it wondering what on earth they’ve signed up to for the next 4 months whilst for others it was a welcome chance to get back in the saddle again and put the hammer down in the iconic home of the London 2012 Olympic track cycling events.
In the advanced/elite group there were some notable performances from Alex Minting (Neon Velo), Antony Wallis (Ciclos Uno), John McClelland (Bush Healthcare), Oliver Moors (Speg-Project 51) and Wayne Crombie (East London Velo).
‘Local’ rider Dimitri Demishev (Hackney CC) leads the B group just ahead of Martin Meades (Ciclos Uno), Adrian Ward (Shaftesbury CC), Craig Stevens (Ciclos Uno) and Tickenham CC’s Stephen Aslin.
However, the highest points-scorer of the evening came from the C group and Hainault CC’s Russel Kober . In addition to placing in the top 2 of all of his races he also took a lap in his points race, safely securing himself a bonus of 5 points towards his league total. Also in the top five in this group were Tom Hargreaves (London Dynamo), Ben Whitehead (Hackney GT), Riyadh Khamis (Personal Bikefit.com) and the ever-popular Neville Smith (CSE Racing). Russel has now been promoted up to the B group based on his outstanding performance.
The series continues on Thursday with completely full field of Women and C-Group men.
