Team News – HMT Academy
HMT Academy with JLT Condor Cycling Team today announced its expected race programme for the 2015 season, a rounded calendar of domestic and international racing that will see the six youngsters supported by HMT given the opportunity to test themselves to the limit at home and abroad from March through to October.
The programme devised by team director Mark Barry is bookended by features of the calendar that have a uniquely British feel, starting in early March with a time trial and finishing in October with a Hill Climb.
In between, the Academy will ride a calendar of events incorporating National Junior Series events and UCI World Junior Men’s races which will see them competing in single day classics as well as multi day stage races across the UK and five other European countries.
The programme promises to deliver the riders the perfect opportunity to make their mark internationally and take their first steps in progressing toward a professional career. Mark Barry, the Sporting Director of the Academy commented “our race programme is designed to provide tough competition so that our riders can test themselves at the highest levels of junior competition whilst experiencing the various challenges they will have to face competing and traveling within a professional team environmentâ€
Tony Barrett, Head of Care and Logistics explained “as well as developing their ability as cyclists, our race programme will require each individual rider to take individual responsibility for being organised, professional and demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with the team. Developing key skills like this is important for both elite sport and for life, we take the responsibility for developing these skills as seriously for these young riders as we do every member of staff here at HMTâ€
Jon Sharples, Director of Trainsharp and head of performance says “the guys at the Academy will be put through significant challenges throughout the season. Over the winter period, we have been ensuring the riders will be in the best physical condition in order to cope with the challenges ahead. By working closely with the team, Trainsharp will ensure that the riders get the best support available to them through structured coaching, SRM power analysis and helping them forge a pathway towards their future careers.â€
Sean Yates, Director Sportif of Tinkoff-Saxo Procycling and Senior Coach at Trainsharp had this to say: “The HMT Academy programme is incredibly well supported. Any Junior Cyclist aiming to progress in the sport should aspire to be part of the programme. The riders will be able appreciate the benefits of coaching and the impact it has on performance management and athlete preparation. I only wish that this sort of support was around when I was a juniorâ€
