Sean Kelly’s Father-in-Law Dan Grant Dies

Thanks to the legend photographer John Pierce for this news.

Sean Kelly’s father in law, Dan Grant from Carrick on Suir (Ireland), has passed away. Dan, a big healthy man who was 85 years young, died of old age in the Greenhill Nursing Home. His wife Bridie passed away two years ago. The two were married for 59 years. Dan leaves a son Gerard.

Dan and Bridie are the parents of Linda Kelly, Sean’s wife who he has known since she was 13 years old.

Many years ago, ‘big Dan’ decided to start a cycling club in Carrick on Suir so the young kids had something to do. It was he who did all the race organising with Tony Ryan. A young man came along and Dan’s daughter, then 13 years sewed the embroidery of the club name on his first racing jersey – that young man was Sean Kelly. The rest is indeed history.
